Dr. Ryan Wheeler grew up in the East Bay and developed a passion for veterinary emergency and critical care when he worked at an after hours emergency clinic during his college years at Chico State. He followed his love for medicine, animals, and exotic places by attending veterinary school at Ross University on the island of St. Kitts in the West Indies. He completed his veterinary education and clinical rotations at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in St. Paul.
Dr. Wheeler pursued advanced training and completed a small animal emergency and surgical internship at Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston. He then joined a busy private practice emergency referral center in Philadelphia, gaining experience in the medicine and surgery of emergency cases. With an intense desire to provide the best possible care for these patients, Dr. Wheeler joined the residency training program in emergency and critical care at Four Seasons Animal Hospital that leads to board certification by the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care. He is excited to be part of the team at Four Seasons Animal Hospital, to further his training, and to care for the pets and clients of the community where he was raised.
Ryan spends his free time with friends and family enjoying the wonderful recreational opportunities that California has to offer. To keep mentally and physically fit, he follows the CrossFit strength and conditioning program used by many police, military, and martial artists. He loves everything outdoors, particularly fly fishing, camping, and hiking with his Rottweiler Akula.
